Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari seeks Swedish & EU Green Fund technical and financial assistance for conversion of existing fossil fuels Vehicles into electric vehicles in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari has sought technical and financial support from the Swedish and EU Green Funds to convert Pakistan’s fossil-fuel vehicles, particularly motorcycles, to electric technology. He proposed interest-free loans through Pakistani banks, citing the strong repayment capacity of this income group. Highlighting Pakistan’s 55% renewable energy share, Minister Power, reiterated the government’s commitment to affordable and sustainable electricity. Awais Leghari also emphasized the review of the Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) to ensure least-cost energy integration for economic growth. Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg Von Linde assured Sweden’s readiness to share renewable energy expertise and highlighted Sweden’s leadership with 70% energy generated from renewable resources. She also noted Sweden’s focus on supporting Pakistan’s textile sector in achieving global competitiveness through sustainable energy solutions.
